HOW 'THE MINDY PROJECT' LANDED DR. JAMES FRANCO

As “The Mindy Project” begins its second season, the forecast calls for New York to be hotter than Haiti.  Why?  Because when Mindy comes back from her  volunteer work in the tropical nation, she finds a new doctor in her old office:  James Franco.  The Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee is one of Hollywood’s hottest properties, so what’s he doing on “The Mindy Project”?  Well, as it turns out, Mindy Kaling and James Franco have plenty of mutual friends, and when they both appeared in “This Is The End,” that was just the beginning of a working relationship between the two.  (Click on the audio player to hear Mindy Kaling)

While “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV” is one of Hollywood’s corniest clichés, Franco says that for him, there’s actually a lot of truth to it – he would like to be a doctor, but playing one is the closest he’ll ever get.  (Click on the audio player to hear James Franco)

The Mindy Project” airs Tuesday nights at 9:30/8:30 Central on FOX.

HUGH JACKMAN LOOKS FORWARD TO GOING BACKWARD IN NEXT 'X-MEN' MOVIE

It’s been a busy summer for Hugh Jackman. After wrapping the drama “Prisoners” – which opens in theaters this Friday – he went right back into Wolverine mode for the next “X-Men” movie, “Days of Future Past.” Fans of the franchise have been looking forward to the new installment, which reunites much of the original “X-Men” cast (including Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen), while adding “First Class” stars Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender. But it was the premise of the movie that had Jackman hooked from the get-go, a “Back To The Future”-like twist that has Wolverine playing Marty McMutant, going back in time to alter history – and possibly the future of mutant-kind! “X-Men: Days of Future Past” will open in theaters next May 23.
