No Middle Ground: Idol Judges All In Qassim's Corner

The "American Idol" judges have never used their save as early in the competition as they did on Thursday night, when they unanimously voted to spare Qaasim Middelton from a quick exit.  Was it the right choice?  There was plenty of criticism to be found on social media, but when we spoke to the judges on Thursday night, each of them felt they had made the right decision.

Jennifer Lopez told us there was no doubt in her mind, because she's felt that Middleton has been the best performer she's seen on the "American Idol" stage all season, from the auditions through the finals. (Click on the audio player  to hear Jennifer Lopez)

As for Harry Connick, Jr., he praised Middleton's potential and his "save performance," but also offered a little bit of advice for the young singer going forward.  (Click on the audio player  to hear Harry Connick, Jr.)
For Keith Urban, Middleton's rendition of The Beatles' "Come Together" more than justified the "save" vote.  (Click on the audio player  to hear Keith Urban)

With no more judges' save remaining, America's votes will eliminate two of the Top 11 contestants on the next episode of "American Idol XIV," which will feature '80s music and guest mentor Boy George.  It will air Wednesday night at 8/7c on FOX.
