David Duchovny Still Loves X, So He’s Going Back

For the large legion of die-hard Mulder & Scully fans, it was like Christmas -- or should we say X-mas? -- in March when FOX announced that six new episodes of "The X-Files" would be produced this summer.  David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back in their iconic roles, as will the show's creator, Chris Carter.  (And since then, it's been announced that two key supporting players -- Mitch Pileggi and Walter B. Davis -- will return as Walter Skinner and the Cigarette Smoking Man, respectively.)  The more we hear about the new episodes, the more we're excited we're getting.  And we're not the only ones -- we had a chance to speak to David Duchovny himself, and he's excited to reunite with the "X-Files" team.

When we last saw agents Mulder and Scully, they were sipping drinks on a tropical island at the end of "The X-Files: I Want To Believe."  That was seven years ago, and a lot of people wondered if that would be the last image we'd have of them, as talk of a follow-up movie never seemed to make it past the rumor stage.  That actually came as a surprise to Duchovny, who expected the franchise to continue.  But with television's sudden interest in shorter "event series," he says it made perfect sense to explore a "short season" of new "X-Files" episodes on TV.

While Duchovny hasn't seen any scripts yet and hasn't been told much about the new episodes, one thing is certain: He's 22 years older than he was when "The X-Files" first premiered on FOX, and he's confident that while Mulder will always be Mulder, it will be an older and wiser version of the character.

There hasn't been an air date announced for the new episodes of "The X-Files" on FOX, but shooting will begin in Vancouver in June.
