Pop Partners At The ‘Dance’ Desk: Paula Abdul & Jason Derulo

In its 12th season, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is reinventing itself, with a new panel of judges and a new theme pitting classically trained “stage dancers” against “street dancers.” The new faces at the judges’ table belong to a pair of pop stars who are also known for their dance moves: Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo. Abdul, of course, started her career as a dancer and choreographer before branching out into music. And she’s had plenty of experience as a judge from the time she spent on AMERICAN IDOL. But while “judge” is her job title, she sees herself as more of a mentor to the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE contestants.

 Derulo, though he started on the music side, has always incorporated cutting-edge dance moves into his videos and live performances. And because his music career is still going strong, it wasn’t an easy decision to join SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, but he thinks it was the right one.
