Thanks to starring roles in the TV series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and in George Clooney's "The Descendants," Shailene Woodley was quietly but quickly building a name and reputation in Hollywood as a young actress to watch.
So it comes as little surprise that when Hollywood wanted to make movies based on Veronica Roth's "Divergent" book trilogy, Woodley was the producer's first choice for the series' young heroine.
While the "Divergent" series has drawn comparisons to "The Hunger Games," Woodley's career has also been compared to "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence. So when Woodley was unsure whether she wanted to commit to a major franchise, the reached out to Lawrence.
"Divergent" opens March 21.
